But with the project being postponed for reasons unknown, Simbu had moved on with Silambattam which is now a super hit. But it looks like the duo will be teaming up very soon.

Simbu will be doing a cameo role in a film titled Jagadalaprathapan directed by editor Antony. The buzz is that Simbu will do a koothu song in the movie, which is likely to begin in February.

It was originally announced to be Poda Podi, in which he was paired with Sarath Kumar’s daughter, Varalakshmi. The movie, said to be a musical, was to have the actress play a salsa dancer ,and shot for most part in Toronto.

But it was said that the movie, to be produced by Sharanya Telefilms, would start by August. It’s December now and there still seems no sight of shooting for the film.

It seems Simbu is planning on resuming Kettavan, and has told the production house that they’ll have to wait for almost two years to start Poda Podi, in case Kettavan gets a new lease of life and starts shoot.

Jayam Ravi, Jai, Prem G., Sakthi, Vijayalakshmi, Ashok, Bharath, Priyamani, Venkat Prabhu were some of those who were present for the gala event. Every one enjoyed the film very much, which was obvious from the vociferous expressions of appreciation heard in the hall! Every song and every “Simbuism” was cheered by the audience with thunderous applause. The remix of ‘Vachikava’ (a song from Rajni’s yesteryear hit Nallavanuku Nallavan) seems to be the favourite of all, judging by the intense cheers it elicited.

Well, it was fun till the end! It was an evening to cherish for all these young stars and the cool host Simbu.

Silambattam, which stars Sneha and new girl Sana Khan, follows the life of a modest and timid lad. After a few reels, a big twist awaits the viewers, which takes their interest levels to a new high.

Silambattam is a typical mass masala entertainer. It is another ‘Formulaic’ film revolving around a larger than life hero, who romances, does comedy, speaks only in punchlines, has deep sentimental bond with his family, and is a one-man fighting machine who emerges triumphant in the end!

The tested formula has worked wonders for an array of young stars who were inspired largely by the Superstar Rajinikanth. Simbu also wants to be a popular mass hero and the route he has taken is doing such films which appeals to a large section of Tamil audiences who doesn’t enjoy films that test’s intellect and imagination.

There is nothing original about the story; it has been etched from various Tamil, Telugu and an old Hindi film. What makes the film watchable is the packaging, which moves at a rapid pace, though at times this 2 hour 45 minute film tests your patience.

Vichu (Simbu) is an appavi (innocent) temple priest who is brought up by his grandfather (Nedumudi Venu) as a coward. Janu (Sana Khan), his neighbour, a talkative, pretty Brahmin girl is crazy about Vichu but she wants him to be brave and smart. But behind the coy and innocence, our hero Vichu has another side to him. Like an elephant he does not know his strength and soon he uses it against some local goons who come in his way.

Dorai Singam (Kishore) a local MLA who is a thug, lords over the area and he wants to take procession of villagers land for building a beer factory. His rival Muthuvel (Prabhu) who was in jail comes out and crosses sword with Dorai. But Vichu intervenes and he beats Dorai’s men single-handedly. Muthvel is shocked to see Vichu who has a striking resemblance with his younger brother Tamizh(Simbu) who was killed by Dorai. What is the connection between Tamizh and Vichu? All the drama unfolds in the second half.

Actually the first half is a bit slow with Santhanam’s crude comedy and the romance of Vichu and Janu . After the censors gave more than a dozen cuts and an UA certificate, the film still reeks of double entendre, crude gags, crass toilet jokes, and lots of blood and gore. But the story gains tempo and unfolds in a racy manner in the latter half with a well-shot Tamizh’s introductory song and his cute romance with Gayathri (Sneha).

Silambattam is not devoid of faults – Double meaning dialogues, the girls massaging Panchamritham on Vichu’s body and excessive violence when a 10-year-old is on a killing spree and songs pushed into the narrative in the first half.

The scenes that stand out are the lead to the climax, when Vichu in Billa get-up meets the villain and the punchlines that follow are a scream, Karunas subtle comedy that evokes laughter, the beautiful visuals atop a train with Tamizh-Gayathri romance, pleasing photography by Saravanan, action scenes by Kanal Kannan, spunky choreography and Yuvan’s songs and background score are noteworthy.

Simbu dances like a dream and shines in this film with a performance that is measured and meticulous. As the cheerily upbeat Tamizh and the innocent Vichu he invests an equal amount of energy and style. Sana Khan looks lovely and makes an earnest attempt in the acting department too but in a film like this, that’s plenty effort. Sneha does her bit with grace while Prabhu is just ok. Kishore is menacing as the villain.

On the whole, it’s a decent masala entertainer aimed at mass audiences.

Says Simbu: “The board members who watched the film liked it and they congratulated me for my dance, which they said was the best they have seen in recent times”.

The film which is an action based entertainer was given UA by censors with a few scenes like Santhanam’s comedy scenes with double meaning either muted or trimmed.

Lakshmi Movie Makers for whom Simbu is their 25th film is all smiles as it is the first Silambarasan film that has gone for high price in all areas. The film has now been confirmed for a December 18 big release in over 150 screens in Tamilnadu.

Most of the theatrical rights of the film have gone for very attractive prices. Coimbatore area has gone for a record Rs 1.89 crore, the highest ever paid for a Simbu film.

Similarly Madurai, TK and South Arcot have gone for high prices at a time when the market is down.

The poster designs of the film are attracting the distributors. In the film Simbu plays a temple priest who due to certain circumstances is forced to take law into his hands.

A Mumbai model Sana Khan is being introduced as the film’s glamorous heroine. It is cameraman Saravanan’s directorial debut film

Silambattam songs of Yuvan Shankar Raja has also hit the bulls eye in the countdown charts. The song Where is the party tonight?… is already a hot favourite.

If the film is promoted a little more aggressively, it has potential to be a hit.

Being a bereaved lover, Simbu is not keen on getting into another relationship, yet his father has advised him that it will be the best way to put his life back on track. TR has nodded his agreement for even a love marriage if his son desires. As the producers of ‘Silambattam’ have entreated TR to postpone the conjugal plans, the wedding might take place after the movie’s release.

‘Silambattam’ could be the last movie of Silambarasan as an eligible bachelor and the teetotaler might be out of rumors when he becomes a patriarch.

The movie to be shot extensively in Canada introduces Varalaxmi, daughter of Sarath Kumar as heroine.

Meanwhile, Silambarasan is currently shooting for a song sequence in ‘Silambattam’ and the film will hit the screens early next month. As soon as shooting for ‘Silambattam’ is over, the actor will fly to Canada to start ‘Poda Podi’.

On criticism that he ghost-directs his projects, Simbu says, ‘I just say suggestions. When the film bombs, I am the one who takes the blame and not the director. I am not at all bothered by the people who point out my faults.’

Meanwhile Simbu has said that he has been working very hard these days. So hard that a medical practitioner had told him to take rest or else he might not be able to walk in a few years.

Silambarasan’s ‘Silambattam’ will hit the screens this December. The movie is highly anticipated by Simbu’s fans and the good news for them is that the film has been completed and ready to hit the screens.

Starring Simbu, newcomer Sana Khan and Sneha in pivotal roles, the movie is directed by debutant Saravanan and produced by Lakshmi Movie Makers.

Featuring Simbu as a Brahmin priest, who becomes an angry young man due to various incidents the movie has reportedly come good. Expectations are that it would open big.

Songs by Yuvanshankar are topping the charts already. The remix number ‘Vachukava’ is a craze among youth. Says Simbu, ‘the movie has enough elements to woo the masses. The story has many unexpected twists and is sure to click’.

So, what would be his new project that will fill the place of this biggie? Though not the same script, he presented to Ajith Kumar, Gowtham has got an interesting story and Silambarasan has been roped in for playing lead role. Sources have revealed that title of the film maybe ‘Dammal Dumil’ and nothing has been revealed out here.
